Some stats, about women in healthcare:

  • In 2022, 88.12% of employed nurses were female (ANMF, 2022).
  • In 2023, 15% of the active surgical workforce were female (Journal of Women in Surgery, 2023).

I initially worked in a female-dominated profession as a nurse and academic.  Later in my career, I worked alongside orthopaedic and neurosurgeons, a male-dominated profession. Now as the Founding Director of Medical Sphere, my growing number of staff, clients, and consist of many incredible women.

I think women make fantastic leaders. They listen, work well as a team (particularly in a medical crisis) and are great communicators. I have seen them show great strength, care and compassion.

I believe there is pressure for women to be successful in their career whilst simultaneously fulfilling family life. I have seen women “achieve it all” and others who have struggled under these pressures at times.

I hope I build a workplace where my women feel supported, grow in their career and fulfil a family life (in whatever way that looks for the individual).

To all the women out there: I see you, hear you, feel you and I support you.
